Velidhu Island Resort is an idyllic paradise and a delightful spot for a romantic getaway, offering all the modern amenities and comforts including those little things that make a perfect holiday. Built over 19 acres of tropical island, dense with the typical lush green vegetation and encircled by soft white sandy beaches and crystal clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean, the hotel offers splendid views that stretch out as far as the eye can see. Surrounded by a shallow lagoon the reef is home to colourful soft and hard corals with a profusion of flamboyant fish life including reef sharks and turtles. Pop on a snorkel and mask and you can enjoy this wonderful house reef at any time. There are around 50 dives sites accessible from the resort, all offering divers a remarkable experience in their own right with close encounters with shoals of barracuda, sharks, turtles and rays, every dive is magical.

The resort offers 80 circular beach bungalows, shaded by the lush green palms trees that feature a private beach area, thatched roofs and simple, modern décor in keeping with the islands unfussy approach. There are 20 stunning and luxurious cone shaped water bungalows with thatched roofs, elegantly decorated in neutral tones, with ample space offering a homely feel. They float above the crystal clear waters with a sun deck and incredible glass floors for guests to watch the huge array of tropical fish. Four of these wonderful water bungalows offer a private jacuzzi which is perfect for honeymooners and lovers alike!

The Velidhu Island Resort recreational activities include a range of water sports. The vast clear lagoon is the perfect place for snorkeling, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, canoeing and diving. Guests can benefit from the Euro Divers PADI dive centre located on site where diving sessions are organised on a daily basis. With 56 thrilling dive sites in the vicinity to choose from such as Maaya Thila where you can experience grey reef sharks, tunas, white tip sharks, turtles and eagle rays to Lucky Hell a 45 minute dive through overhangs with a big variety of soft corals. In high season from December to mid-May manta rays are a wondrous and peaceful spectacle for all divers to enjoy.

The hotel’s only restaurant Iruara serves buffet style meals with a wide variety of different international cuisines on offer each night and the daily Beach Grill BBQ serves an array of meat and freshly caught fish. It is always an enjoyable relaxing experience, sitting out in the open air enjoying magnificent views out over the ocean whilst relishing breakfast, lunch and dinner served by friendly staff attentive to your every need. The Light House bar is situated on the edge of the lagoon looking out over the soft white sand and light blue sea, where guests can kick back and exchange stories of the days diving over freshly made cocktails. Offering snacks, an a la carte menu, entertainment and activities every night ranging from DJ’s to bingo there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Velidhu Island Resort

Euro Divers is a 5 Star PADI dive centre located on-site at Velidhu Island Resort offering divers a friendly, safe environment with a high standard of service. This well-established dive centre compromises of four multi-lingual, knowledgeable instructors and a wide range of products which means the centre can professionally organise and guarantee you a fun and memorable diving experience whether you are a new or skilled diver. There are more than 30 dives site around the Velidhu Island Resort for divers to enjoy including wall diving, wreck diving, mantas and sharks! For the lucky few hammerhead sharks can be seen here, during November to March manta rays can be spotted and also whale sharks in February and March as they make their way to the south part of the atoll.

There are a range of experiences on offer whether you choose an individual dive package, a beginner’s course or a course for experienced divers, Euro Divers has it all. All PADI centres provide courses as well as specialities and a wide range of excursion programs for divers such as daily morning and afternoon dives, early morning dives, night dives, special full day excursions, wreck dives, special hammerhead dives and much more. Nitrox is available in all centres and free of charge for PADI and NRC certified divers. Fluoro diving is now also an option at all the Euro Divers in the Maldives. It is a relatively new development nonetheless a very mesmerising one, you will be put in very small groups and equipped with special lights and mask filters which enables you to discover the reef by night. A very fascinating experience!

Euro Divers' dive boats are comfortable and equipped with a sundeck, first aid kit, oxygen equipment (DAN) as well as a radio or mobile phone. In between dives the crew offers small refreshments on board.

PADI Open Water Diver (Inc Equipment)

This is the most popular dive program in the world! And can be your chance to have a lifetime of intense adventures.

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

Knowledge Development ( online, independent study or in a classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver

The Advanced Open Water Diver program gives you the opportunity to take your diving skill to the next level through three new areas of diving.
You complete your Deep Dive, Underwater Navigation Dive, Night Dive and two other dives for a total of five to attain your Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

This certification includes five dives, including the Deep Diver, the Underwater Navigation Diver and three of the following: You’ll plan your learning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives. During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.

The other knowledge and skills you get vary with your interest and the adventures you have – photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, exploring wrecks and many more.

PADI Discover Scuba Diving

This course is a subset of the PADI Open Water Diver course. If you're short on time but really want to become a diver, the PADI Scuba Diver rating might be right for you.

The PADI Scuba Diver course consists of three main phases:

PADI Bubblemaker

Experience scuba diving under the direct supervision of a PADI Pro. Take your first breaths underwater in water shallower than 2 metres/6ft. For children who are at least 8 years old.

Become a Rescue Diver. A great level to be. You will have the skills to aid your fellow divers in an emergency.

The PADI Rescue Diver course prepares you to deal with dive emergencies, minor and major, using a variety of techniques. Through knowledge development and rescue exercises, you learn what to look for and how to respond. During rescue scenarios, you put into practice your knowledge and skills. Topics include:

PADI Underwater Naturalist

Get a better understanding about the local ecosystem and the differences between terrestrial and aquatic worlds. See new things, even in the most familiar dive sites.

Through class discussions and on two scuba dives, you’ll learn:

PADI Drift Diver

Drift diving can be relaxing and exhilarating. The course teaches you how to enjoy going with the flow as you scuba dive down rivers and use ocean currents to glide along.

Explore deeper dive sites with confidence at depths down to 40 metres/130ft. Learn to manage your gas supply, go over buddy contact procedures, and buoyancy control.

Scuba diving at night teaches you to focus on what you can see in your light’s beam, on controlling your buoyancy by feel, on staying with your buddy and on paying attention to details you may overlook during the day. During three night dives, you’ll practice:
